Calorie Calculator - When Counting Really Helps
A friend mentioned to me that it might be a good idea to place a calorie calculator on my site. I told her that the whole point of this site is to help people totally trust their own intuition and knowledge, and to get AWAY from things like counting calories. She was quick (and wise) to point out to me that it can never hurt to be aware of your dietary needs on all levels, and that not everyone is at the stage where they can be totally tuned in to their needs in every minute. I realized that not only was she right, but that I can use some awareness help myself! Some days I wake up humming, hardly hungry, and can tune in to my hunger cues from the second they begin showing themselves. I have the exact right foods around to satiate, and feel fulfilled and energetic after a meal. Other days I wake up ravenous, and can't find anything to satisfy. During the course of these days, I can eat and eat and eat and still not feel nourished. Yes, sometimes this can be due to emotional eating, but I'm more talking about those days when my hormones are a bit loopy and my whole body feels a bit confused. Do you know these days? These are the days I need some assistance with my personal awareness, or I can eat the house down! I attribute these swings to being human. ;) So I decided to take my friend's advice, and add this page, but not without some food for thought, first. I'd like to remind those folks out there (including myself!) who sometimes find counting calories (or points, or ounces, or carbs, etc etc) helpful, that most vegetables have almost no calories whatsoever. This is an open invitation to make them the mainstay of your diet, which will both increase your health, and mean you'll hardly ever be hungry. Veggies are closely followed by fruit, especially the lower-sugar fruits such as apples, plums, and wild/local berries. Add a variety of fruits to your diet. Your skin will love you for it! I assume that when people ask for a calorie calculator, they usually mean that they want to calculate how many calories they need to take in for their body weight/height. Because most foods are either labeled with caloric info, or it's easy to find a
list online for fresh foods.
If you are looking for a calculator to find out how many calories you should be taking in for your size,
here's a good one.
So I leave you to do the math. I hope this helps to bring more awareness and conscious eating into all of our lives!
